As a member of the Policy Publishing team, you would be tasked with researching and summarizing hot-button issues relating to the economy, designing policies to improve our nation’s economy, and determining the economic feasibility of other teams’ proposals. Anyone with an interest in general policy and improving Youth’s educations regarding our nation’s political policy is encouraged to apply.
Duties include research, crafting opinion and solution pieces, and interviewing experts. We are highly merit based, and dedication is noticed and highly valued. We have had many of our current managers and directors start as Interns. We are an ever expanding organization and ideas will often be rewarded.

Strong research and writing skills are required. Good communication and speaking skills are also useful. YIP is a multimedia nonprofit (501c3) so a variety of skills is encouraged. Be prepared to wow us in your interview.
YIP stands for "Institute for Youth in Policy". The Institute for Youth in Policy conducts and communicates independent, high-quality research to improve nonpartisan education policy and practice. Working with policymakers, researchers, educators, community groups, and others, the Institute seeks to advance evidence-based policies that support empowering and equitable learning for each and every teen. Nonprofit and nonpartisan, the Institute connects policymakers and stakeholders at the local, state, and federal levels with the evidence, ideas, and actions needed to strengthen the education system from preschool through college and career readiness.
YIP's current operations are conducted entirely remotely, with a diverse team spanning over 7 time zones. We use 21st century tools like Slack to keep all team members in the loop about what's going on at any given time. All meetings are held virtually as of July 2021; however, we plan to expand our Chapters into schools across the country in hybrid and in-person models, adhering to CDC guidelines.
With regards to leadership structure, our operations are divided into four main "departments": Publishing, Programming, Networks, and Strategic Innovations; each team has a director and most departments have sub-departments. There are also smaller teams that handle our internal affairs: HR, Legal, Tech, and Finance. We are governed by a Board of Directors and meet with members of our Advisory Board on a monthly basis.
